WWE Royal Rumble: Edge and Belair to WrestleMania; Bad Bunny flies through the air; Carlito returns
“The road to WrestleMania has begun.”
This year’s Royal Rumble event started off with a gigantic match of epic proportions with the WWE Championship match between the champion Drew McIntyre and the member of the WWE Hall of Fame Goldberg. Multiple spears and a "jackhammer suplex" were not enough for the legend Goldberg to become champion. Drew McIntyre successfully defended his championship in a physical match full of various and false finishes, but after applying a Claymore kick to Goldberg in the middle of the ring.
WWE Champion Drew McIntyre definitely won the respect of Goldberg who let him know after the match in a show of respect and admiration between both wrestlers. McIntyre continues his incredible run as WWE champion and goes on to WrestleMania as champion. The question is: who’s next to challenge Drew McIntyre?
Sasha Banks retains the SmackDown Women's Championship
Although Carmella looked great in this match, it was Sasha who came with the victory. What will be Carmella's next step in WWE. Time will tell... sooner or later.
Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler are once again the Women's Tag Team Champions
This was not the best night for either Charlotte Flair and Asuka. This match took part on the Kickoff show. Surprisingly, Jax and Baszler won the titles for the second time.
You think you know me? Edge is going to the Main Event of WrestleMania
Exactly 11 years to the date of his first victory at the 2010 Royal Rumble, Edge achieved his goal of winning his second Rumble and thus securing his space in the main event of WrestleMania. Edge, who surprised the WWE Universe last year when he returned after 9 years of retirement because of an injury on his neck, is again back at the top of the mountain at WWE. Edge is the third wrestler in WWE history to win the Royal Rumble after entering the match at #1.
It was an incredible Royal Rumble where we saw the return of the Puerto Rican sensation Carlito, Christian and the debut of the also Puerto Rican Damian Priest, the match met the expectations of the fans and there were many iconic moments that we will remember of this Royal Rumble. Like the intervention of rapper Bad Bunny after the elimination of The Miz and John Morrison where the boricua jumped from the third rope into Miz and Morrison, delighting the wrestlers and the WWE ThunderDome.
"The Rated R Superstar Edge goes in search of the championship that he never lost when he was forced to retired and there is no better stage than WrestleMania. Can Edge be a champion again? Will he challenged Drew McIntyre or Roman Reigns?
The EST of WWE wins the Woman’s Royal Rumble Match
30 women left everything in the ring in search of that golden opportunity at WrestleMania, but only one "EST" surpassed everything at the end of the match. Bianca Belair, who entered the third in the Rumble, achieved the dream of her career by winning the Royal Rumble and punching her ticket on the road to WrestleMania.
This victory guarantees Belair a match for the championship of her choosing on the biggest stage of the WWE. This is undoubtedly the most important victory for Bianca Belair’s young career, but this is just the beginning for the EST of WWE. Now she has to decide what championship she will go in search of at WrestleMania.
Can Bianca Belair become the next WWE Women's Champion? Which championship will she be challenging at WrestleMania?
Roman Reigns is the last man standing.
Obviously Kevin Owens and the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns hate each other, and this was made clear during their championship match under the "Last Man Standing" stipulation. Literally, both fighters fought across Tropicana Field Stadium where the WWE ThunderDome is located. Both competitors fought with everything they found along their way and were creative when it came time to punish each other throughout the match.
Kevin Owens sacrificed everything in order to become champion but it wasn't enough, and Roman Reigns retained the Universal Championship. Owens had handcuffed Reigns to one of the platforms holding the lights and when the referee had his count in nine, the champion pushed him to another platform stopping the count. With the help of Paul Heyman, Reigns managed to escape and with a guillotine hold to Owen’s neck, he managed to beat the challenger and snob his dream of being WWE Universal Champion again.
Can Kevin Owens recover from this painful defeat? Will we see Roman Reigns enter WrestleMania as the WWE Universal Champion?
